The SAAB discussion forum provides an opportunity for scholars to discuss, with respect and collegiality, broad issues and debates affecting the theory and practice of archaeology on the sub-continent, as well as current results, issues and successes in African archaeology and beyond. The discussion forum is also a platform to showcase the different disciplines in African archaeology in keeping with the SAAB’s commitment to public archaeology and social relevance. Postgraduate students are encouraged to submit articles focused on issues related to their practice and professional development as early-career researchers.

Discussion forum articles are between 1000–3000 words. These submissions can either propose a debate topic (providing clear context and background to the debate) or respond to previously published articles, topics relating to current events and conference reports. The editors welcome suggestions for topics. The SAAB editorial team will review the articles, and if necessary, outside reviewers will be obtained.
