Important Notice, last update 11 June 2020:
The W. Cape Branch, in keeping with lockdown regulations during the COVID-19 pandemic, is not gathering for monthly meetings. Instead we are livestreaming meetings via YouTube Live. They are scheduled at the familiar time: the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The next two presentations will be on 14 July and 11 August.

The name of the presenter and the title and abstract will be advertised in advance on the Society’s website which will appear on the home page under the "Latest Events & Activities" section and on the upcoming activities page, https://www.archaeology.org.za/activities. Previous talks that have already been made are accessible via the activities archive page, https://www.archaeology.org.za/activities-archive. The upcoming and archived list of events/activities can be found from the main menu, Events - or Events > Activities Archive respectively. Interested persons might like to diarise those dates and add a reminder to their phone. Members will receive advance notice by email.
Past and future events can also be found on our new YouTube channel by searching YouTube for "SA Archaeological Society Talks" or visiting this link:

General information on W. Cape branch activities.
Monthly talks on topics of archaeological interest are given on the second Tuesday of the month from February to November. The talks are given at the SA Astronomical Observatory in Observatory. Our speakers are professional archaeologists or specialists in related disciplines. Members gather half an hour before the talk to chat to each other over a glass of sherry. Guests are welcome at our monthly lectures: fee R10 a guest.
Our One Day Lecture series is held annually in conjunction with the Stellenbosch Museum. At this event, four specialists speak on a particular topic. This event is open to the public and is advertised in the press.
We arrange several day outings a year in and around Cape Town for the benefit of our members. Once or twice a year, overnight excursions are arranged to places of archaeological interest out of town. Every now and again we organize an extended excursion to another Province. These are all led by professional archaeologists. We do not participate in digs, although we occasionally visit them by special arrangement with the archaeologists responsible.
The Western Cape branch provides several newsletters a year advertising our activities. These may be received by post or by e-mail.
