Abstract:
This talk will have all the aspects of a great novel (later to be turned into a movie): there is mystery, suspense, history, a touch of drama, and a pinch of love. Come join me in the story of fossils of the Karoo, from when they are found in the field to when they are researched, and their stories are told. The focus of this talk is the process that fossils go through in order to be researched and how I literally uncover 250 million years of history and how this can be utilised in an archaeological context.

Bio:
I have a BSocSci Honours in Archaeology and graduated in 2013 from the University of Cape Town. After that I did the NRF Internship Programme at Stellenbosch University (2014/2015) where I worked on Egyptian Animal Mummies and in 2015 I started working at the Iziko South African Museum as a Karoo fossil preparator. In April 2019 I started my own business Pushing Up Daisies doing contract work in Fossil Preparation and have done work for the Iziko South African Museum, the Max Planck Institute of Evolutionary Biology and currently have a project with Wits University in collaboration with the University College of London and Oxford University.
