This illustrated talk will report on a visit to the British Museum exhibition entitled "South Africa: the art of a nation" that will be on display in London from 27 October 2016 to 26 February 2017. The Museum offers some of the earliest examples of human creativity to cutting-edge contemporary works, and encourages visitors to discover the fascinating history of South Africa through art. The items on display include a diverse range of art from across the ages, telling a story that stretches back 100,000 years. From rock art made by the country's earliest peoples at Blombos to works by South African artists at the forefront of contemporary art, the exhibition features beautiful and important objects, which illustrate South Africa's rich history. One of the conferences associated with the exhibition will include a presentation by Janette Deacon, Nic Wiltshire and Rika du Plessis on digital recording of rock art and the recently opened Truitjieskraal trail in the Matjiesrivier Nature Reserve in the Cederberg. It will be summarized in the talk.
